About Juliet Barratt
Founder story & expertise
Juliet Barratt is the co-founder of Grenade. Before building the brand, she studied geography, qualified as a geography and PE teacher and worked in education. She later joined the sports nutrition distribution business run with Al Barratt, where the pair saw an opportunity to create a brand that looked and felt different from the generic products dominating the category. Juliet’s strengths centred on marketing, brand, product presentation and the overall customer experience, while Al focused more heavily on sales. Grenade grew from a distinctive first product into a broader sports nutrition range and then into mass-market food through products including Carb Killa protein bars. In the Built Not Born In Business conversation, Juliet discusses product development, authentic marketing, investment, culture, hiring, founder dependence and the emotional reality of selling a company that had shaped more than a decade of her life.
